With Fall Comes Progress!

IT’S FALL!!! I can’t tell you how excited I am for the season change. I love Summer. I love the heat and especially the SUN. But I can’t help but be ecstatic about each of the season changes. The older I get the more I think maybe I don’t have a favorite season anymore. They’re all too amazing in their own way, hardly even comparable! How could I possibly pick just one?

This Summer Husband and I took some “time off” on the Cabin project. Though, if you asked Husband, he’d say we worked on it all Summer long…which we kind of did. But just a little each week! And nothing that felt like actual progress. I will say that living in the Cabin has been an amazing upgrade from the RV. And it will only get more amazing once we have a kitchen.

Before we get to that, I never did share photos of our completed upstairs bathroom and baby walk-in closet. So without further adieu..

We are definitely going to have to get more creative with our storage. I’m thinking eventually we’ll have to change the closet up to use the space more efficiently, but for a quick afternoon project, it’ll do for the time being! The bathroom is perfect, small and compact, but so functional. I am so glad we decided to put a bathroom upstairs. It’s been extremely nice to have a bathroom upstairs at night! Having one on both floors (eventually) will be even better.

Husband also worked very hard to get a LOT of the interior chinking completed. We still have to finish the North wall that is shared by the living room and bathroom. For some reason I’ve been out of practice with getting progress pictures… I can’t imagine why! So I’m just going to fill in the voids with flower pictures 🙂

We also got drywall up around the South upper window, but I didn’t take any photos of that! The plan was to get the interior chinking done to complete the insulation process, install the heater, and then hopefully the kitchen cabinets would arrive and we could start on those. What actually happened was, we got mostly done with chinking, the heater got lost (thanks Home Depot), we got notified the cabinets were arriving early, and we started the prep work for the cabinets! And as of last weekend we officially installed the majority of the base cabinets!

The cabinets took up most of our downstairs when Husband got them home, so it was a little tricky working in the small space. We had to build a flat wall to attach the cabinets to, we could’ve used lots of shims and attached them to the log wall, but we are planning on putting a backsplash up so it made sense to just make a flat even surface for both. The wall was no quick project however, it took so much time and effort just to get it mostly square to the other wall!

Somehow I totally messed up the order for the upper cabinets, so I had to order some different ones before we can start on installing those. But we do have the cabinets to make the island, and the sink and faucet, as well as the stove top. So as soon as the island is in, we will be set to order countertops!

And here’s how we’re living currently! Still using the table saw as our island, but now we have storage and some pretend countertops! I just got the cabinet hardware and will be working on getting them installed shortly. Once we get the island cabinets installed we’ll be able to get the counters ordered, and then it will only be a matter of time before we have a full blown kitchen!!

Before I wrap this up, here’s some pictures of the garden. The in-laws did an incredible job this year. There were flowers throughout, so it was so beautiful in addition to being fruitful! I am so incredibly grateful for this property we live on. At this point I just wish I had endless time, energy, and money to spend on it. Patience is a virtue I suppose 🙂

  1. It was a real treat to get your update. How wonderful every aspect is coming together!!!!! It brings back lots of memories of living conditions during some of our remodels. BUT………the joy and appreciation is doubled when you have to wait.
It’s good to see how happy and blessed you are with your home.
    Much love, Grandma
