On Friday, June 5, 2020 we spent our first night in our new home!! Okay, so I realize that was three weeks ago already. Somehow, I got another (this is my third) job. And I am in my final quarter of school. And I was pushing super hard to get out of the RV. I might be a little bit crazy…
But we did it!!
I am feeling so incredibly grateful for all of the people who supported us throughout this massive undertaking. And while I realize it isn’t finished (or even remotely close to being finished), we are intentionally taking a break from pushing so hard on the Cabin to be able to really enjoy the fruits of our labors.
Wow, it’s been so long since I’ve updated, I had to go back and find out where we were in the last progress photos!! So after finishing up the mud and taping of the drywall, I got a little crazy and just went ahead and painted right away. I’m not sure if that was the right choice as we already have a few nicks and scuffs, but boy did it help with that instant gratification feeling I love!
THEN WE PUT THE FLOORING IN. This project took the entire day. And I was incredibly sore the following day. Like I’m talking crazy sore. For 3+ days. But it was worth every second of pain. The flooring absolutely transformed the place.
Okay so then, we went ahead and started getting the trim in – which was awesome and tedious and also instantly gratifying. But when FIL helped me install the doors while Husband was at work? Holy cow. I was ready to move in! But we really needed a toilet in order for me to feel good about doing that….
Once we got the trim all done, I went to work on the railing. We had already sanded and stained it, so I put some polyurethane on it. I’m not kidding, I despised the stain we picked..but when I put the polyurethane on it, somehow it just pulled everything together and it looked really really great! The last thing we had to do with the railing was get all the spindles installed and the top plate put on. Our friend E helped us out by getting all of the spindles in (THANK GOODNESS!!).
We did finally get the toilet in the bathroom and the vanity in! But for some reason I don’t have any pictures of those, and I’m not home to take some. So I suppose that’ll be a later update! While E was working on our railing, our good friend A helped build our bedside tables. By the time we finished the projects that Friday evening, we were able to move our bed up! I had already purchased some new plants to live in our new loft, so I just set those up as well. It took us almost another week to get the bed frame, and then we installed the blinds and curtains! Everything arrived a little late, but moving in early was well worth sleeping on the floor mattress :)!
Eventually we will continue work on the Cabin, but for now we are just trying to enjoy it! Today was my last day of class, and Tuesday is graduation!! I’m currently working one job in the field I went to school for – and training nearly full time at a second! I am also still working a little bit at the coffee stand. So hopefully we’ll get into a nice routine after I pass (fingers crossed!!!) my registry test and eventually be ready to make some more progress. Because a kitchen and a full bath would be really nice!
