Ten

Weekend ten comprised of sub-floor wire running and fixing the mucky crawlspace. The wiring took quite a bit of time as we are running nearly all of our electrical wires for the downstairs under the floor so it doesn’t have to be hidden along the log walls. We had already done most of the planning and felt prepared Friday morning – until we realized there must be some special way to wire things so you can have multiple light switches for one light…

Once we finally learned how to wire for multiple switches, we got to work running the wires we could without the different kind of wiring we would need for the lights with multiple switches. We labeled all the wires as we went, and stapled them to the floor joists. We have everything popping up through the floor in the spot where the breaker box will eventually live. We had to make a second run to Home Depot on Saturday to get the rest of the wiring done.

Once we got the wiring all in place it was time to take care of the still wet crawlspace. We decided to use up the rest of our drainage rock from the french drain around the Cabin and fill the crawlspace so that the water will be able to flow down and out. We had some friends come over and help us out which was super awesome, cuz about an hour and a half in Husband and I were in need of a break! Thank heavens that’s when help showed up!

We opted to use the machines to help us with the shoveling, and used 5 gallon buckets to move the rocks into the crawlspace. A 5 gallon bucket of rocks can get pretty heavy after a few hauls! We were probably only about a quarter of the way through when our first friend arrived, and holy cow he took a load off our backs!

Our other friends arrived (conveniently!) just as the last trailer of buckets were being unloaded. We covered the whole crawlspace and had it leveled out (thank you A!) in no time at all. So just to make the other friends work a little bit, we moved the rest of the rock pile over to the East side of the Cabin and made a walking path to the door so we wouldn’t be trudging through mud anymore.

Our late friends got a pass because they brought us these awesome picnic tables!! I’m pretty excited to use them this Spring for gardening, and through the Summer for hang outs. I can’t wait to start having people over for BBQs and fires again!! Even if our kitchen isn’t done this Summer, I think we’ll finally be able to host some get togethers :).
