Weekend Four we took a SNOW DAY. If you know me, you know there are a couple of things about winter I LOVE:
1. Christmas
2. SNOWWWW
Seriously, here in the PNW, (by which I mean basically the most Pacific North West corner of the continental U.S. – we’re 10 minutes from the Canadian border and about 30 minutes from the ocean) we do not get snow. When we do get snow, it’s like a measly inch…if we’re lucky. And EVERYTHING shuts down. Originally, I’m from Minnesota. We moved out to Washington when I was 10, but I still remember the winters fondly – particularly the mass amounts of snow. I’ve been told more than a few times that if I’d stayed in Minnesota then I would’ve grown tired of the snow…but I haven’t grown tired of Christmas, so I’ll politely disagree.
Last weekend, the snow started on Sunday, but we had already cleared out the downstairs of the cabin and were feeling great. Though there wasn’t much snow on the ground, it stuck around and everything stayed frozen until this weekend! Then the snow started again, and hasn’t stopped!! School was cancelled Monday, and again today. And looking outside, I’m not sure it’ll be open tomorrow. Because it’s STILL SNOWING. Sunday I was feeling a little gipped because everyone was posting all these snowy pictures, and we didn’t have nearly that much. But as the snow keeps on falling, my little heart is full to bursting with excitement!
The dogs have been enjoying the snow in their own way as well. Maverick (German Shepherd Lab) can’t get enough of the snow. Except when he buries his face in it, then, just about every time, he’s had enough of it. But he was having so much fun I could barely get him to sit still long enough to get a picture! Look at him pleading to be released from the sit so he can go explore some more. Oliver (Yorkipoo) is pretty excited to be cuddled up in the Honey House with everyone for the long weekend, and enjoys trying to relieve himself inside before someone puts him out in the snow. He’s only succeeded once thus far, and got put in the snow anyway. Today the snow is nearly as deep as he is tall! We have to be strategic where we put him down.
I’m pretty bummed we didn’t progress on the Cabin this weekend, but I’m pretty okay with getting some real snow. By next weekend it’s supposed to warm back up so we are thinking we might get started on removing the upstairs floor/downstairs ceiling. We’d like to lay eyes on what’s holding that floor up so we can make some important decisions on how to get the loft going strong and sturdy while keeping the kitchen nice and open (and post-less). Soon enough we are going to get the addition removed and then we will be done with demolition and moving on to the restoration part of the project! That’s the bit I’m really excited about!
UPDATE:
School got cancelled Wednesday as well, and we got snowed in from Wednesday to Saturday! It’s been a long time since the snow has prevented me from driving, but snow drifted over our driveway and effectively shut us in! Luckily we had some good friends who were kind enough to deliver beer to us on Thursday afternoon. We were able to get some work done on the Cabin at the end of the week, but I decided I’d better add all my snowed in photos to this post instead, since it’s already all about the snow!
